Not having a large part of my day sucked up by ticky-tapping at the keyboard suddenly and mysteriously frees up quite a few hours. I got an exceptional amount of knitting done last night. Actual knitting. Not just reading about knitting or inputting data about knitting or looking at pictures of other peoples knitting...real, honest to goodness, did it with my own two hands knitting. This is what I was working on...
Classic Cable from Top Down for Toddlers by Deb and Lynda Gemmel. I've been so obsessed with this project that it's bringing me dangerously closer to carpal tunnel with every stitch. I've been dying to knit this pattern ever since I bought the book, about a year ago or so. My last trip to Mahone Bay resulted in enough Lana Wool Gatto (I'd put a link here but I can't find a decent enough site) to do the job and then some. The picture almost does the colour justice. This yarn is perfect for this project. I think the resulting sweater will be nice and warm but light and soft. This yarn is so nice to work with...I just want to keep touching it. To give you an idea of how relentlessly I've knit this sweater, I started it last Friday night. This photo was taken...two days ago, so Tues. afternoon. I took the sweater to Knit Nite last night too, and knit a bit afterwards, so the body is nearly finished. If I can keep up this pace, I'll likely be done the whole thing by the end of the weekend. That's a personal best for me.
In other knitty-type news, I've yet to tell you all of my latest acquisition. Please excuse the background on this photo, it does nothing to enhance the object itself.
An antique wool winder. Had my eye on it at the local buy n' sell, and when I ventured back for a second look, it was still there. That's my rule...see it once, let it marinate, if it's still there, it was meant to be. Hiding items in dark corners or behind less desirable objects is totally permitted. Not that I did such a thing with this little gem, I'm just sayin' is all. Anyhow, I'm pretty pleased with my little purchase. It looks very antique-y indeed and will hopefully go very nicely in the craft room of my imagining.
As the hubby was gone overnight, I had the rare occassion of having the bed all to myself. It mimics in adulthood the same sensations as a snow day did in childhood. It is delightful and guiltfree and you revel in it while you can, full of the knowledge that it will not last forever. This little indulgence was tempered however by seeing my toothbrush, normally paired and happily co-mingling in the cup next to the bathroom sink, standing there all by itself this morning. It was a sad little image, and it made me a little lonely too. Nice to know this absence was only overnight...and nothing like those six long months of a year ago.
And with that in mind, I think I'll hunker down and get a few minutes of whole bed to myself time before someone finishes watching Murder at 1600 on TBS. (I didn't think Dennis Miller's acting in that was all that bad).
Until later...

Your antique woolwinder looks wonderful! Aren't you the clever shopper to not only find it, but to know what it was.
Your little sweater is coming along nicely and will be lovely and soft with the wool gatto!
The sweater is coming along nicely! I love the color.
It's going to be a sad couple of weeks with no Knit Nite....
Awww, I love this post. I would not have recognized an antique wool winder if I had tripped over it...but I loved the lonely tooth brush. It took me back to (jeeze, too many) years ago when we were as poor as church mice. My husband had a workshop or something to go to and we had ONE ..1 tube of toothpaste!!! I got up in the morning, and there on a little butter plate, was this damned teeny worm of toothpaste spread out on that plate for me to use for, God knows how many days, while he had the real thing, the tube with him. I ask you, how poor can you get??
What a great memory now! I am a proud owner of three tubes of toothpaste now! I've come a long way, baby! I will skip the memory of finding my first born twirling my toothbrush in the toilet one morning and wondering how long he had been doing that.
